Qin Fan
PhD studentResearch Interests
Qin is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Linguistics and English Language. Her thesis explores sustainable fashion branding in Shanghai’s high-end market. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines multi-sited ethnography with corpus-assisted discourse study, she investigates how brands discursively construct added value around their products.
Her research also examines how Chinese middle- and upper-middle-class identities are represented in business and branding discourse. Qin is particularly interested in the cultural meanings embedded in sustainability rhetoric and how language shapes consumer identity in contemporary urban China.
